Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) are vast subjects and is a basic necessity for every works of occupation. Subjects of SHE related to industries are mainly incorporated in this book. Though SHE are vital subjects to learn and practice but unfortunately they are not properly attended or cared in our country. Subjects are not even properly studied at any level of education. The book comprises of Twenty-seven chapters and five appendixes, where different aspects relating to SHE are discussed. Chapter One to Twenty comprises of different Hazards types and characteristics, Physical Hazards, Electrical Hazards, Chemical Hazards, Biological Hazards, Psycho-social Hazards, Hazard management, Accident causes, Accident prevention, Management of general fire and fire in high rise buildings, Accident investigation & reporting, Safety audit, Emergency preparedness plan, Hazan, Hazop, Personnel protective equipment etc. Chapter twenty-One and two describes environment and pollution matters. Occupational health is discussed in chapter twenty three. Cited examples helps in understanding clearly many a descriptions that is why some major accident stories of local and international importance are also included in the chapter twenty four. A few case studies were included in chapter twenty five to enrich the conception of causes of accident happening and their remedial actions. Bangladesh does not have any “National policy on safety, health and work environment”. A draft policy was proposed to the government by the technical committee formed by ministry of labour (the author acted as an expert member) and draft policy is described in chapter twenty six. Underground mining is a very recent concept in Bangladesh and started practicing with Barapukuria coal & Hard rock mining project. To have a general idea about underground mining, some aspects of safety standards in Chinese Coal-mines are included in chapter twenty seven. In appendixes one to four, formats of different work permits, safety audits, Material Safety Data sheets (MSDS) and trouble shooting guidelines are included. Safety, Health and Environmental aspects in the Bangladesh Labour Act-2006 are contained in appendix five. This book will be helpful for the Engineering and other professional students as a course of study and also for the practicing executives as a guideline for establishing safety management at their work places.
