Bangladesh is such a country that needs massive development works to be undertaken. Certainly it is a country of immense possibility and probability and also of unthinkable potentiality. To make any plan effective and to achieve the desired target it needs proper monitoring and evaluation by the authority. Dr. Nasim Banu, a veteran researcher, educationist and teacher, in the present book, has diligently delineated the importance of planning, monitoring and evaluation in Bangladesh. To our mind, authoritative policy-makers, educationists, students and general readers may derive much benefits from her presentation and analysis of the subject from different angles. The book covers description and analysis of development planning, monitoring and evaluation. It addresses the wide range of relevant and important issues of development projects focusing attention on the need for adaptation of appropriate mechanism for better performance of IMED in Bangladesh. The book is a perfect review and analysis of relevant literature. It is an outcome of long teaching and research experience of the author on project management practices. The subject of monitoring and evaluation is believed considerable importance in response to the increase complexity of development of society. It is not only concerned with description but with developing proper knowledge about the forces that lead to planning, monitoring and evaluation of development programs. The book is primarily intended for the graduate/post-graduate students who take courses on project management, planning, monitoring and evaluation. It will also be useful for the policy makers, planners, development partners for designing and implementation of project. The long listed appendixes of the book may provide useful insights and guidance for academicians, scholars, researchers for further study and research. Dr. Nasim Banu is a Professor in the Department of Public Administration at Islamic University, Kushtia. She holds Master of Social Sciences degree in Public Administration from the University of Dhaka, an additional Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). She earned Ph.D degree for her thesis on Monitoring and Evaluation system in Bangladesh. She has been in teaching for about 30 years with wide range research experience in the field of Social Sciences. She held the position of Chairperson in the Department of Politics and Public Administration; Editor, Journal of the Islamic University Studies. Presently she is holding the position of Chairperson in the Department of Development Studies and Dean, faculty of Social Sciences. She is the Convenor, Eve Teasing Prevention and Protection Committee at Islamic University. The author has contributed with her writing to Banglapedia, published by Asiatic Society, Dhaka; and Global Encyclopaedia of Public Administration, published by Springer Publications, India. She has extensive experience in research in the field of implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development projects, public policy and disaster management. She has published over 30 research articles in reputed journal of home and abroad. She has also participated number of international conferences with her research works on monitoring and evaluation; national policies; nationalisation, privatisation and poverty; climate change and natural disaster issues. She is a life member of Bangladesh Institute of Planners, Political Science and Public Administration Association and Network of Asia Pacific Schools and Institute of Public Administration and Governance (NAPSIPAG).
